All About Me

I'm Helen, and I'm a Doula UK approved birth and postnatal doula living in South Cheshire.  I'm also a trained antenatal educator supporting parents-to-be across Cheshire and South Manchester.

I'm a mum of three and former primary school teacher with a wide range of experience related to birth, infant feeding and the postnatal period.

I wish I had heard of doulas when I had my babies - now I'm excited to be supporting you on your journey to parenthood!

What is a doula?

Pregnancy is a time of huge emotions. You may be feeling excited to meet your new baby and becoming parents, but you might also be feeling nervous about the birth or in need of some guidance as to what to expect and how to navigate maternity services. You’ll be hoping for a positive birth experience that is free of fear, but you may have lots of questions that just need clear answers.

In many cultures around the world, women are automatically surrounded by other women as they give birth, and it is an expectation that they have a period of recuperation after birth as they adjust to life with their new baby. In our society this is not always the case, and we don’t always have the support that we need from family and friends – for lots of reasons. This is where a doula comes in.

As your doula, I can offer individualised antenatal education sessions, labour and birth support, postnatal guidance and support (including nights), help with feeding, or a combination of all these. I have a range of packages on offer, but can tailor any package to meet your specific needs. I have experience of home birth and hospital birth and can support with all types of feeding.

Doulas are passionate about supporting parents-to-be as they navigate the journey through pregnancy, labour, birth and early parenthood, in whatever way works best for them. They provide up-to-date, evidence-based information together with empathetic, non-judgemental support tailored to their clients' needs, preferences and wishes. All the evidence shows that women supported by a doula experience shorter labours with less medical intervention, have less need for pain management and report much more positive experiences of birth.

Think of all the planning we typically do for weddings, holidays, new jobs, house moves - yet many people go into birth hoping to 'wing it' on one of the most significant days of their lives. If you'd like to regain a little more control, be supported to birth your baby in the best way for you and be given the gentle care you need and deserve as you bond with your baby and recover after your birth... then get in touch - as your doula, I can give you all of that and more! â€‹â€‹â€‹

If you think I may be the right doula for you, please do get in touch!

Services

Postnatal Doula

As your postnatal doula, I’ll be around for you in this transitional period, whether it’s your first baby or your fourth, supporting you to become the parent you want to be and again equipping you with the information you need to make decisions that feel right for you and your baby. You may need some support so that you can rest and recuperate after the birth, or some help caring for your new baby. You might need some help overnight so that you can catch up on your sleep. Some people just need a little bit of reassurance that they are doing a great job.

Birth Doula

As your birth doula, my job is to help you to feel fully prepared and ready for the birth of your baby, support you through labour and birth, and offer guidance and help in the postnatal period. Whatever type of birth you choose, I will offer you non-judgemental support and all the information you need to advocate for yourself and make the informed decisions that feel right for you and your baby.

Client Testimonials

Thank you for all your knowledge and info, today at my 40 week scan the midwife said she would be booking me an induction for 41 weeks but because of what we had talked about I felt empowered to decline.
